1980s Arcade Cabinet Cashtronics, Christchurch, New Zealand

The Project

The cabinet was purchased from an online auction. Intention was to completely restore the cabinet back to as-new condition, enhance the cabinet with modern hardware (for arcade emulation). The cabinet had sustained damage to the original MDF veneer and taped edging. This wasn't able to be restored to its former condition without over-laying the elements with fake material to hide the damage. Thus the decision was made to modernise the cabinet. Original parts where retained as much as possible. Attention was giving to the restoring old components either by stripping existing coatings and powder coating or preparing for paint. New hardware includes Seimitsu joysticks, Sanwa buttons + controller boards. An old PC I had in storage was dusted off and used as the main system for emulation, the GPU installed allows for the emulation of the old CRT scan lines. M.A.M.E emulator with BigBox front end makes for seamless control of arcade/modern games. Cabinet now resides in my living room, and is capable of playing the classic arcade games with the modern-day pixel art games.
