1990s Arcade Cabinet - Big Orange

The Project

This cabinet has the same repair process as the first project by restoring the cabinet back to as-new condition while enhancing the cabinet with modern hardware. This cabinet was design for vertical arcade shooters originally so I modified a PC monitor to fit vertically into the cabinet. Parts of the cabinet structure needed removing/adjusting to house the new monitor neatly inside. The cabinet had sustained damage to the original MDF/Melteca and T-Mouldings so these areas were fixed prior to a full repaint. The Arcade cabinet back in the day was called Big Red due to the colour selected for the Melteca, I decided on Burnt Orange hence the project name Big Orange. Just like the first project the original parts where retained as much as possible and new hardware such as joysticks, buttons + controller boards are used. Modified PC used as the main system for emulation while the GPU installed allows for the emulation of the old CRT scan lines. Batocera (Linux) front end software currently runs this system for the emulation of the retro arcade games. The photos below tell the story how it was done.
