Inner City Sanctuaries Project

Landscape Design & Construction

Ease of care and low maintenance design with the same seamless transitions from inside to outside. The planting was left up to the owner to select their preferred species of plants. This project shows the construction method used which is the same as my own landscape project.

Creation of the Sanctuary:

  • In situ concrete piles augered to soild ground bearing
  • Ground treated bearers with galvanised reinforcing, screwed into bearer to solidly bed the bearers into the in situ concrete piles
  • Exterior treated joists spaced to suit the Kwila decking with additional joists for heavy planter/urns
  • Deck ventilated along the full length of the deck meeting the dwelling with weep holes
  • DPM used to protect ground treated timbers in contact with raised planter sections
  • Raised sections of garden for entry formed with ground treated timber and finished with Kwila to match the main deck
  • Natural stones to form path of entry, prepared prior with compacted AP40
  • Ground treated timber/DPM used to retain soil along palin fences and neighbours' shared boundary wall
  • Kwila deck fixed with stainless screws finished flush with the surface
