Mitsubishi Legnum VR4 project

This project was undertaken back in 2003. This was the first time I had worked on a full sized car project.


Details of the work undertaken by myself:


  • Car dissembled down to a bare shell for complete repaint inside and out with reassembly completed by myself
  • All custom modified parts had to be designed/templated on the car for accurate fitment
  • No modification to chassis/body work to fit the custom fabricated parts so that car was capable of being returned to stock
  • Meticulous attention to detail throughout rebuild process reconditioning parts
  • Every part detailed to an as-new finish
  • Detailing to engine bay, motor, under carriage, and interior


Custom upgraded parts were designed and fabricated by myself:


  • Polished aluminium turbo pipe work mandrel bent and TIG welded
  • Polished aluminium air intake system mandrel bent and TIG welded with cone type K&N air filter
  • Polished aluminium battery/fuse box, laser cut, C.N.C bent and TIG welded
  • Centre dash gauge pod sculptured and texture painted to match interior trim


Specialised work designed by myself, with outsourcing for the following:


  • Polished aluminium radiator and bar/plate intercooler: 600x270x76mm
  • Exhaust system redesigned with specialised coating ProCoat: Cermakrome (metallic ceramic) in polished alloy finish


Added upgrades/modifications:


  • Brembo 4/2 pot calipers + rotors from Evolution VI with updated front hubs/ABS sensors (powder coated)
  • Tuned CUSCO front and rear Anti-swaybars front and rear (powder coated)
  • TEIN HA adjustable suspension coil overs (powder coated to match paint)
  • Custom audio system upgraded with custom mids and tweeters (7 speaker system with Blaupunkt amp)
  • BSA 19" alloys. 215/35/19 Kumho tyres
  • Modified front bumper and added later style upper grill
  • Installed later body style side skirts to rear bumper
  • Modified Tiptronic gear shifter, mounted MOMO gear knob/shifter boot and reversed the shifting throws (European)
  • Roof rack rails removed, polished and chromed
  • Clear side repeaters
  • Custom polished aluminium radiator brackets, polished aluminium oil cap
  • Tinted front drivers/passenger windows
  • Fujitsubo muffler with specialised coating ProCoat: Cermakrome (metallic ceramic) in polished alloy finish
  • Nuts/bolts throughout either electroplated or purchased new
  • Wired in Turbosmart E-Boost electronic boost controller with discrete interior installation
  • Shaved centre console (blend A/C controls) texture coated to match interior
  • Carbon fibre bonnet/wing mirrors
  • Modified motor rocker cover
  • Chromed factory strut brace, custom polished aluminium catch can
  • Powder coating to various engine bay components
  • Turbonetics silicone jointers for intercooler/air intake pipe work
  • Installed alarm system with remote starting/Pager
  • Custom earthing kit
  • Custom hand crafted aluminium foot pedals
  • After market ATF cooler


Performance:


1/4 mile 13.514 @ 101.12mph

(without ECU tuned to take advantage of the modified parts)
